HUGE BIKE TOUR STARTED WITH 30 RIDERS

OCEAN CITY, N.J. --- One of the largest bike tours in America, the one voted the “Best Cycling Get Away In New Jersey” by Bicycling Magazine, rolls into Ocean City this weekend. Over 9000 bikers will raise over $4.5 million to support research, programs and services for people with Multiple Sclerosis. They will arrive in Ocean City starting approximately 11:30 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 29 from the Cherry Hill area and return on Sunday morning. Arrival location will be the Sports and Civic Center, 6th St. off Boardwalk. The event was started 27 years ago by TV anchor and author, Larry Kane. “There was a meeting with Larry at the Plymouth Inn with about ten of his volunteers,” remembers Public Relations Director, Mark Soifer, who represented the City. “Only about 30 riders participated in the first tour.” Soifer credits Kane’s promotional efforts and drive in quickly making the event a huge success. “It was a personal mission for Larry. His mother died as a result of the disease.” Today, with over 1200 volunteers, the Bike Tour is spearheaded by the Greater Delaware Valley Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
