OCEAN CITY EARTH DAY CELEBRATION SET FOR APRIL 15TH
OCEAN CITY, N.J. ---- As April 15th approaches, city officials are planning an informative Earth Day Festival.
This program will be held at the Bayside Center, 5th and Bay Avenue, from noon till 4 pm.
Prior to the events from 9 am to 11 am, volunteers from throughout the regions including government agencies and community groups will participate in a clean up of Cowpens Island adjacent to the intercoastal waterway on the bayfront. Anyone who has a kayak, boat or canoe who wishes to join in this effort is welcomed. Volunteers will receive a tee shirt and will be honored at the Earth Day event.
Activities at the Bayside Center kick-off with a series of awards to local residents who have contributed to environmental projects including recycling and preservation of the beach and ocean. The City’s newly established Environmental Commission will also be introduced.
Parking will be provided at the Tabernacle and shuttle buses will loop to and from the Bayside Center.
Activities for children include a scavenger hunt at 12:45 pm, followed by entertainment with the Turtle Singers and the Good Times Band.
A special exhibit featuring live animals will be presented by the Cape May County Zoo from 2 pm to 4 pm. There will be numerous exhibits by environmental organizations that will distribute information and giveaways. Admission is free.
There will be recycling drop off areas for eye glasses, cell phones and empty ink jet cartridges. Refreshments will be available.
The City is promoting numerous environmental initiatives including recycling, solar energy, green buildings, hybrid vehicles and other programs.
